Francesco Ganassin is a musician, researcher and educator whose work explores the connections between traditional and contemporary creative practices.
As a clarinet player, composer and improviser, he has developed a personal language that draws on folk music, electroacoustic experimentation and self-built instruments and software. His projects, including New Landscapes, 2Grains and Breath, often bridge sound with theatre, installation and performance. He has composed and performed scores for productions with actors and writers such as Giuseppe Battiston, Vasco Mirandola, Andrea Pennacchi and Massimo Carlotto. His long collaboration with the ensemble Calicanto was awarded the Prix Coup de Cœur by the Académie Charles Cros.
His practice is rooted in a deep engagement with sonic systems that generate new forms. This perspective emerges in his concerts and the instruments and software he builds, as well as in his teaching at the conservatories of Bologna, Castelfranco Veneto and Padova. His academic courses range from the study of traditional musical systems to ensemble practices and extemporaneous creation within electroacoustic improvisation. He also works as a support teacher in middle school, bringing the same attention to listening, presence and creative process into inclusive pedagogy.
